22. Here we go again ...

Well it has been nearly a year since my first Interrail trip was unfortunately cut short. In the meantime, my herniated disc has recovered well, thanks to an excellent care and treatment I received from my chiropractor Dr. Anthony Lavin in Co. Donegal.

It's nearly a year since that first Interrail trip got cut short. The good news is the herniated disc has fully recovered, thanks to the excellent care I received from my chiropractor, Dr. Anthony Lavin, in Co. Donegal.

Interrail eventually refunded my unused travel days, so I'm left with four free days of train travel to put to use.

The plan is largely the same route I'd mapped out for 2023 - with one change: this time I'll finish in Tallinn, Estonia, rather than Riga, Latvia. My wife Tricia will join me in Warsaw.

I'll use the four remaining Interrail days early on, covering Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. Train service through the Baltic countries is patchy enough that I'll switch to coach travel for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, relying on Flixbus, LuxExpress and Ecolines — apart from possibly the short hop between Kaunas and Vilnius, which I may still do by train.

 

Accommodation has worked out well: HomeExchange GuestPoints have come through in seven of my nine stops — Budapest, Bratislava, Krakow, Torun, Warsaw, Riga and Estonia. 

For the two remaining cities, Kaunas and Vilnius, I've booked hotels through Booking.com with free cancellation, as a fallback in case a home exchange comes through late.
